English Word Works is a family-owned business.

We are small enough to care about every one of our clients—all English editing work is done personally by Laura or Rod Holmes—yet we're also a global company in every sense. We have home-based offices in Chicago and Tokyo, through our partnership with Terada Office. We also have contractors located all over the world with whom we've worked for years.

Laura Holmes has been editing, rewriting, proofreading, and copy writing professionally for 15 years. She has a bachelors' degree in journalism and a minor in English. She is also an accredited English-as-a-second-language teacher.

In Tokyo, Laura was the on-site English editor for two corporations: Hitachi, Ltd. and Sumitomo 3M. She sat at the editing desk at the Hitachi corporation's head office for six years, and she edited for Sumitomo 3M for one year. In both positions she helped everyone, from top executives to factory workers.

Rod Holmes started his career in purchasing for a manufacturing company, before working his way into accounting. He has been doing technical editing, rewriting, and proofreading for seven years, mostly for the automotive industry and the general manufacturing sector.

Rod has manufacturing and business experience which helps with much of the editing he has done. He has done a lot of editing in the automotive industry and the general manufacturing sector.

A professional English-to-Japanese translator since 1984, Shinichi (Shin) Terada has been the president of Terada Ofiice, a professional translation company based in Tokyo, since it opened in 1989. In recent years, he has started to successfully tackle Japanese-to-English translation. He has tremendous experience in translating for the pre-press industry as well as the automotive industry.

Shin is also an expert at layout, with years of Quark Xpress, Framemaker and MS Word experience. With many of his pre-press jobs, he did everything from translation to layout.

Ruriko Terada has worked as a project manager in the translation industry since 1980. She co-founded Terada Office with Shin in 1989. Ruriko is an expert with layout and can generate professional documents in any language using nearly any DTP software. She specializes in Quark Xpress, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Word.

With her extensive network, Ruriko hand-picks translators who not only do an excellent job of translating but who get the job done on time. If you need a document translated into one or many languages, she'll have it arranged within hours and she'll bring it in on time, with each version of your document looking alike.
